The Hush Sound - Molasses

I mostly listen to rock and metal, but I'm always open to other stuff. Hell, I used to listen to Michelle Branch — after finding out about her in the collab with Carlos Santana (maybe I should also write about this one, ha).

Anyway, I don't remember how I discovered The Hush Sound, but I enjoyed the overall vibe of the songs. Most of all, the voice of Greta Morgan is alluring to me — I like the texture and her expressivity, I guess. My favorite song from The Hush Sound is Molasses, which is a nice show of her skills in the piano too.

It's funny how much her singing changed from their previous album, where it had a more "pop-like" quality to it, which I think is easily noticeable in their song Wine Red:

It's not bad, but it's a bit more grating to my ears, making it tiring listening for too long. It's a personal thing, unrelated to her quality as a singer or whatever.

This acoustic version of Molasses is also pretty great — I love listening to live versions, as musicians seem to show a bit more of their own expression than in a studio setting. Imperfections make some great additions, in my humble opinion.

While checking some things about the band (to see if they have new records after Goodbye Blues), I found out that she lost her voice due to long COVID. Holy shit, man. I don't even know how to end this post now.

She had a brief solo career, and I think it's worth checking out her Bandcamp.
